LEAD: Helping You Find a New Way Forward in Pittsburgh, PA

The Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program offers a different kind of path—one built on support, not punishment. LEAD connects individuals who have had repeated contact with the justice system—often due to challenges like mental health concerns, personal hardship, or use of substances—with a case manager who’s focused on your goals, your well-being, and your future.

You deserve care that helps, not consequences that harm.

Could LEAD Be the Right Fit for You?

LEAD may be a good option if your involvement with the justice system is connected to health struggles or unmet basic needs. Whether you’ve been in trouble before or you’re looking for a better way now, LEAD is about support—not judgment.

You are more than your past. Let’s find a way forward, together.

How to Get Started with LEAD

Our Vision

There are several ways to begin:

  • Police Referral – Officers can refer someone to LEAD instead of filing charges.
  • Community Referral – Providers, public defenders, or family members can make a referral.

No matter how you come to us, your journey begins with a conversation. Your first step is a meeting with a LEAD case manager, who will help you start moving in a new direction.

(If referred by law enforcement, connecting quickly may help reduce or avoid formal charges.)

Support That Centers Your Life and Your Goals

LEAD case managers don’t follow a script—they follow your lead. Together, you’ll build a plan that reflects your priorities and meets you where you are.

Here’s what your case manager can help with:

  • Finding stable housing
  • Connecting with mental health care or counseling
  • Medications for Opioid Use Disorder
  • Searching for jobs or job training
  • Scheduling doctor visits and following through with care
  • Understanding your legal rights and options
  • Rebuilding relationships with family or loved ones
  • Accessing local services and supports
